'Vertumnus' by Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1590-1591)

Always comment and analyse the Art pieces! If you are looking at the picture and want to ask a question - comment with a question and I shall try and answer it as soon as possible!

'Vertumnus' is the God of Seasons, so it is quite clear how the range of seasons have been incorporated into this seminal (means 'important') art piece by Archimboldo. Finished between 1590-1591, this piece was just one of the many portraits Archimboldo composed using a range of different items. It is painted on wood using oil paints and currently resides in Skoklosters Slott, Balsta, Sweden.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo (also spelled Arcimboldi) (1527 – July 11, 1593) was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books — that is, he painted representations of these objects on the canvas arranged in such a way that the whole collection of objects formed a recognizable likeness of the portrait subject.
